The Plus One cone on the Kappa series provides more overall speaker-cone area than others in its class
Key Features
Plus One woofer cones
The Plus One cone on the Kappa series provides more overall speaker-cone area than others in its class. With an effective increase in cone area, the speaker radiates more air. Also, the woven glass fiber woofer cone material produces a lighter and stiffer cone. The result is a better low-frequency response and a greater ability to make those important nearly tangible musical notes that people often associate with a larger speaker size.
Woven glass fiber woofer cones
Woven glass fiber woofer cone material is both extremely stiff and very light. This minimizes cone flex while allowing the cone to react quickly which yields very low distortion, improved clarity and deep low frequency response; all Infinity trademarks.
Edge-driven MMD dome tweeters
These are not commonly used W-domes, but fully edge driven domes like those found in fine home audio loudspeakers. This much larger voice coil increases power handling and provides better sonic integration with the mid-woofer. An edge-driven tweeter also has better dispersion characteristics and allows for a lower crossover frequency than comparable tweeters of its size, which improves imaging. The result is improved vocals and clarity in music.
A wide frequency response that extends to 35kHz helps compensate for speaker placement variations in the car and human hearing deficiencies in the high-frequency spectrum above 15kHz
UniPivot tweeters
Sometimes tweeters aren’t positioned in the best locations. To compensate for this, the Kappa 682.9cf coaxial speakers have an innovative feature called UniPivot. UniPivot allows you the ability to “aim” the tweeters for improved stereo imaging anywhere that they are installed. The result is more realistic, better sounding music.
Ultrahigh-frequency response (up to 35kHz)
A wide frequency response that extends to 35kHz helps compensate for speaker placement variations in the car and human hearing deficiencies in the high-frequency spectrum above 15kHz. The result is that the Infinity Kappa 682.9cf coaxial speakers deliver more of the full-range frequency response that you associate with great sound.
True Four Ohm Impedance
All Kappa speakers feature two ohm voice coils. Original factory-installed speaker wiring in many cars is 18-22 gauge. This wire, and heating in the voice coil when power is applied, increase the impedance “seen” by the amplifier or head unit. The impedance of Kappa Speakers has been adjusted to compensate for this increase and provides more output than factory speakers or others in its class.
Computer-optimized, voice-matched outboard passive crossovers
The 682.9cf’s are unique when compared to other traditional coaxial speakers as they feature an outboard crossover that has been voice-matched for flawless performance. In using an outboard crossover, the 682.9cf is able to deliver much of the performance of a traditional component system without the need to cut or modify a vehicle for a separate tweeter. And since the crossover features only the best parts including including low-hysteresis polypropylene capacitors, low-loss air-core inductors and high-quality resistors you know you will be getting high-performance sound with incomparable clarity, detail and accuracy.
Adjustable tweeter level control
The Infinity Kappa 682.9cf coaxial speakers feature a user adjustable tweeter level control. Custom tuning allows users to optimize the sound for different in-vehicle locations. Simply rotate the tweeter to add or subtract 3dB of output.

Product Information
44 years. One purpose.
Infinity speakers have been the science of sound on the move – innovation after innovation – for over 40 years. In 1968, as our first product – a breakthrough electrostatic speaker with a servo-controlled subwoofer – became highly acclaimed, we found that perfection in the reproduction of recorded sound could be a feasible objective. The Infinity brand’s first 44 years have resulted in a continuous lineup of quality systems and technical improvements that critics have roundly praised and competitors have widely copied. Now, coming up on half a century, we still have an unwavering commitment to technology and performance.

Simply put, these speakers will knock your face off. I had 4 of these (2 front, 2 back) installed in my Mustang that replaced my old Pioneer 6x8's. What an upgrade. The difference was night and day. I use the Infinity's as my source of mids and highs with 2 12" Kicker Comp VR's for my lows. I can't make a judgment on how these produce bass, because that's not what I use them for. I also have these speakers powered by a Power Acoustik 4-channel amp to really give em' some juice. The clarity of these speakers just amazes me daily. My bass used to overpower the rest of the sound with my old Pioneers. Now I can hear singing, drums, and guitar extremely clearly, even with the bone shaking bass that I have going and all with zero distortion. My only complaint is that I wish I would have bought these sooner. I got 2 pairs off of eBay for $60 each, brand new. Try bargain shopping before you shell out $100 a pair for these. Even though they're worth their full retail price, you can get them pretty cheap.
5 star rating without a doubt. Stop reading this review and buy these!

By Dave
These speakers sound fantastic. Amazing range and response! However, the stupid external crossover has caused no end of trouble for me. You don't have a lot of space to work with in a car door, so having that extra dangling box is a pain. Especially if the power window decides to catch on it and tear the thing right off. It wouldn't be too hard for Infinity to attach the crossover to the speaker itself and save worlds of trouble. If not for this design issue this speaker would get 5 stars. If you're thinking about putting them in a door with a power window, make EXTRA sure the glass won't come near where the crossover is.

After careful review of speakers that would fit in my 2010 Ford Edge, I purchased 2 pair of these - front and rear replacements. What a difference from the stock speakers! The most notable thing about these is the clarity of the sound they produce. The rotating adjustable tweeter is perfect for tailoring the speakers for the mounting positions around the car. With the adjustments to these, it removes the needs for component tweeters to be mounted separately and allowed me to keep the stock look of the interior. I highly recommend these for someone looking to improve the sound inside an Edge without having to replace the factory head unit. I am extremely satisfied with these.
