The Plus One cone on the Kappa series provides more overall speaker-cone area than others in its class
Key Features
Plus One woofer cones
The Plus One cone on the Kappa series provides more overall speaker-cone area than others in its class. With an effective increase in cone area, the speaker radiates more air. Also, the woven glass fiber woofer cone material produces a lighter and stiffer cone. The result is a better low-frequency response and a greater ability to make those important nearly tangible musical notes that people often associate with a larger speaker size.
Woven glass fiber woofer cones
Woven glass fiber woofer cone material is both extremely stiff and very light. This minimizes cone flex while allowing the cone to react quickly which yields very low distortion, improved clarity and deep low frequency response; all Infinity trademarks.
Edge-driven MMD dome tweeters
These are not commonly used W-domes, but fully edge driven domes like those found in fine home audio loudspeakers. This much larger voice coil increases power handling and provides better sonic integration with the mid-woofer. An edge-driven tweeter also has better dispersion characteristics and allows for a lower crossover frequency than comparable tweeters of its size, which improves imaging. The result is improved vocals and clarity in music.
A wide frequency response that extends to 35kHz helps compensate for speaker placement variations in the car and human hearing deficiencies in the high-frequency spectrum above 15kHz
UniPivot tweeters
Sometimes tweeters aren’t positioned in the best locations. To compensate for this, the Kappa 62.9i coaxial speakers have an innovative feature called UniPivot. UniPivot allows you the ability to “aim” the tweeters for improved stereo imaging anywhere that they are installed. The result is more realistic, better sounding music.
Ultrahigh-frequency response (up to 35kHz)
A wide frequency response that extends to 35kHz helps compensate for speaker placement variations in the car and human hearing deficiencies in the high-frequency spectrum above 15kHz. The result is that the Infinity Kappa 62.9i coaxial speakers deliver more of the full-range frequency response that you associate with great sound.
True Four Ohm Impedance
All Kappa speakers feature two ohm voice coils. Original factory-installed speaker wiring in many cars is 18-22 gauge. This wire, and heating in the voice coil when power is applied, increase the impedance “seen” by the amplifier or head unit. The impedance of Kappa Speakers has been adjusted to compensate for this increase and provides more output than factory speakers or others in its class.
Computer-optimized, voice-matched outboard passive crossovers
The 62.9i’s are unique when compared to other traditional coaxial speakers as they feature an outboard crossover that has been voice-matched for flawless performance. In using an outboard crossover, the 62.9i is able to deliver much of the performance of a traditional component system without the need to cut or modify a vehicle for a separate tweeter. And since the crossover features only the best parts including including low-hysteresis polypropylene capacitors, low-loss air-core inductors and high-quality resistors you know you will be getting high-performance sound with incomparable clarity, detail and accuracy.
Adjustable tweeter level control
The Infinity Kappa 62.9i coaxial speakers feature a user adjustable tweeter level control. Custom tuning allows users to optimize the sound for different in-vehicle locations. Simply rotate the tweeter to add or subtract 3dB of output.
Intermount III mounting system
The included mounting adapter ring makes installation easy, allowing the same speaker to be used in different factory locations without the need to purchase additional adaptors or mounting kits.

44 years. One purpose.
Infinity speakers have been the science of sound on the move – innovation after innovation – for over 40 years. In 1968, as our first product – a breakthrough electrostatic speaker with a servo-controlled subwoofer – became highly acclaimed, we found that perfection in the reproduction of recorded sound could be a feasible objective. The Infinity brand’s first 44 years have resulted in a continuous lineup of quality systems and technical improvements that critics have roundly praised and competitors have widely copied. Now, coming up on half a century, we still have an unwavering commitment to technology and performance.

By alexanderaku
I've used Kenwood eXcelon, Alpine SPS and SRS, and Infinity Kappas for years. Of the three, which one I purchase more or less boils down to what fits best, looks best to my eye, and what I trust will sound best to my hearing (speaker specs.). So, when the drivers side door speaker quit in my '07 Silverado Classic, due to a broken voice coil, I had an easy search for a replacement. The OEM speakers had always sounded good - and even the bad one still looked brand new when I removed it from the door. It's a shame GM chose to use speakers (Mexican no-name), with cheaply constructed voice coils, or that factory speaker would have still been serving me well. Otherwise, the OEM speaker looked fairly well constructed.
I have the factory "Premium" CD stereo system in my Silverado Classic with RDS, road noise compensation, added HD radio by iSimple, and other "band" features. This system has always performed very well, so I won't be removing it. I could add an amplifier, but the OEM volume levels are more than sufficient and had good clarity with the OEM speakers - although I've always known some clarity improvement could be had with the addition of some high frequency tweeters and better speakers.
I didn't want to otherwise modify the clean look of my truck interior for tweeters and the 629i speakers have them built in. The fact they can be adjusted to point toward the passenger and driver area was perfect. They also have a small dB switch for amplifier compensation. The other speaker brands didn't offer all this, and the 2-75 watts RMS range was ideal since I wasn't needing or interested in mind sizziling sound volumes. You also can't beat the fact Infinity offers true 4-Ohm impedance with 2-Ohm voice coils (4-Ohm including wiring impedance) that can wring out a bit more performance from any system - and that Infinty includes a good performing crossover network with each speaker here.
In the box are also grilles, grille rings, speaker adapters, instructions - unneeded in my install. But, I did use the metal brackets in the install. There's also mounting screws and a little adhesive backed foam speaker insulation that could come in handy. The speakers also have a three year warranty.
Silverado fitment notes:
The door panels on my Silverado Classic are some of the easiest to remove I've ever seen. Maybe GM knew owners would soon be needing to replace their factory speakers? Removal consists of un-clipping the small "vent" panel from the vehilcle front side, and gently prying the door lock and door lever panel from the rear vehicle orientation. Once the two on the door panel are removed, you remove three screws securing the panel. Then you press in on the door panel and push the door handle "C" clip back enough to remove it - if you have manual windows. At this point, you simply push the door panel straight up and remove it. If you have power options, you can remove the wiring at this point to totally remove the door panel, or you may be able to secure it up - allowing you access to the speaker area without removing it. The OEM speaker is removed by pulling the clip on its upper side down and out. The wire connector clip is then easily disengaged from the speaker.
The OEM door speakers have a nice clip in system and fit solidly, but you can't re-use that system with these speakers as it is designed for the "squared" OEM speaker frames with their smaller cone and flexible cone surround. Not to worry, you just have to drill some screw holes to secure the Kappas - and Infinity supplies the screws in the package. The Silverado door has a 5 1/2" diameter hole with a backspace of slightly over 2 3/4" inches to the internal guard rail, and there is a surprising amount of space inside the door that could be utilized for a small amplifier system if wanted.
The factory door speakers have no inner speaker protection from moisture or dirt, but they do have some small insulating speaker frame seals - although my factory speakers were still perfectly clean on both sides. So, the following is purely optional. I purchased XTC XT652 foam speaker baffles to not only provide protection for my new Infinity Kappa 629 Kappa speakers, but to insulate them from any metal speaker frame to door metal contact that could produce a future rattle of any kind. The Infinity 629i and XTC baffles fit the doors well and the Silverado OEM speaker grille/door panel can remain un-modified.
I wrapped the OEM speaker connector and a wiring adapter in a poly foam with some duct tape - this insulated them from the door metal. I also gave the Infinity crossovers the same treatment and left them hanging just below the speakers - and hidden by the door panels. My install ended up looking factory using a minimum of tools.
Leaving the dB tweeter adjustment in the 0 attenuation position gave my install the best performance with my factory EQ. I also slightly rotated the tweeters toward the head room area and got great headroom sound with the door panels re-installed. For the first time since I've owned this truck, my front to rear balance actually sounded right in the mid position - and left to right correction remained the same for my drivers seat position.
Down to hammering brass tacks and iron hard nails...
What probably contributed most heavily to the broken voice coil, on my driver's door GM factory speaker, was GM uses the driver's door speaker for warning chimes. Those chimes are irritating and distracting to a driver even at the low setting (only two settings and managed by the factory radio), and cannot be turned off by the user. The bad thing is they now seem to be louder using the much better performing Infinity Kappa speakers. Why GM went the stupid driver's door speaker route, instead of simply using the old removeable and easily replaceable chime modules they used years back, just shows more of how they are bent toward making it impossible for owners to service their own vehicles - or to have little if any control over most functions. Additionally, GM needs to wake up and stop their user unfriendly practices of using multiple computers to remove added vehicle controls from the hands of the owner - also unnecessarily complicating systems. As for those stupid chimes, I don't need them and I'm certain there are a majority of others who feel the same - there are also about a dozen idiot lights that flash out the same warnings on the dash.
The Infinity Kappa 629i speakers, fully sealed in the XTC baffles, were an easy install in my Silverado doors. There was a noticeable improvement in clarity and bass, with some sorely needed "brightness" provided by tweeters - and I'm hearing things in the music that I could never hear using the GM OEM door speakers. My OEM radio EQ and tone controls now offer more control over what I'm hearing - and that really improves the use of them. Until now, I had never bothered much with them as they weren't of much use with the factory speakers. Now they really make a difference for the better. The 629i speakers just made the sound system of my Silverado Classic come alive... Only one problem, they make me want to go ahead and replace the OEM rear speakers - and I'm wondering what improvement a small 4-channel amplifier could make. Anyway, the system now sounds great as it is.

By Mark Sanchez
I picked these up after an 8 year old pair of Infinity Kappa's I had been running finally started to break down and I then tried a pair of Kickers 6.5" non-coax woofers as a cheap replacement for 2 years. Those gave out fast, and am back to Infinity Kappas and LOVE it. I'm powering these and a small pair of 4.5" speakers off a stable 120 watt (RMS)stereo amp. I've got my crossover set to pass high's around 140hz, but the integrated crossovers on these probably help control frequency range problems to keep low end distortion at bay. That said, these hit on the mid's very hard and the high's are clean as expected. I don't get any distortion until I start to push them past their limits, which are at some pretty loud volumes.
For the price, the Infinity 62.9i's are a great replacement and will sound great with some decent power behind them. Let your subs handle your low frequency range and these will cover your mid's and up just fine.

By Madadh
I'm a huge fan of Infinity speakers, and when I finally decided the "factory upgraded" system in my car wasn't what I was looking for, in this economy... I went bargain shopping.
These speakers are great for the price, I won't deny that (and might even repeat it once or twice), but I do suggest (from several days with them now) that you only outfit the front doors with these. You need something less "tinny" in the back, and with four of these (because I wasn't paying attention) adjusting the treble is a pain the *ss. So, with that I give these a four, because they're great speakers, not the best infinity has to offer, but certainly for the price, if you know what you're buying. And expect to round them out with a better mid range speaker and a descent woofer.
